Triple 12X and Growlers review by Rain

“Jeff brought down 4 Growlers and an infant set of Triple 12s for us Saturday and, as expected, I’m very very impressed. (Triple 12X’s were so new that the grills have not arrived yet.)
Set up time was minimal. LabGruppen on the tops, QSC on the subs.
Electricity looked to be short in supply (as the DJ had taken all but to of the circuits off the distro. panel) but we made some adjustments and everything performed perfect the whole night.
(** until Jeff went to inspect the crossover on his driverack and it decided to cycle power in the middle of a song – LMAO!)
First off let me say what a pleasure it was to meet Jeff and how nice it was for him to come to the Deep South for a weekend. Friday we drug him by a local steak house that serves the meat on 750 degree lava rocks. Saturday was the Mardi Gras Ball. And I believe Sunday he was in New Orleans as the Saints were pushing towards the Super Bowl.
Back to the system. None of the cabinets weigh more than what one man or woman can handle. Everything fit in his vehicle (was it a mini van or a compact SUV?) with room for a passenger.
Someone here on the forum has a signature that states that the answer to a better kick drum sound is more RIG. That has never been so true. A touch of compression on the kick and very little EQing and the drum was making your pants flap, the hair on your legs move and your chest even compressed with each hit.
Playing in the center of the room allowed us to splay the mains outward a bit and there really was no slap back from the opposite wall to speak of. The sound was best described as “hi-fi” and very smooth. Being used to the horn loaded cabinets we’ve used for decades it took some time to readjust my ears and convince my brain that the high end was really there.
Band was a full acoustic kit (kick, snare, 2 overheads), Keys, trumpet, sax, guitar, bass, and 5 vox. (1 female)
There was plenty of thump to keep the dance floor filled all night and we had enough horizontal dispersion to have them dancing nearly from one end of the hall to the other.
In the photos the tops are still aimed inward. We changed this just before the show.”
